Could you test if VirtualDub plays out.avi?
ffmpeg -i input -s 356x236 -vcodec v210 -an out.avi

It plays it, but the output is broken (like with linesize problem in ffmpeg), but when I use -s 320x240 then the file plays just fine.

What happened to that? Discussion on the patch seems to have died out.
