This is a libavcodec-related option:

Understand that it's a libavcodec option, but it seems inconsistent that ffplay.1 does explicitly document -threads (under *Advanced options*) yet ffmpeg.1 does not.

What is the distinction I'm missing between why -threads is documented in ffplay and not documented in ffmpeg?

Not trying to give you a hard time on what is surely a minor point, but honestly don't understand.
